This website is to raise public awareness of the boycott of GothCon over the concerns involving monies not received by the yearly charities designated by GothCon.

For the past several years, a growing number of patrons have spent much of their hard earned money to attend GothCon, which was fully marketed as a not-for-profit event. It was understood that above the normal operating expenses, all left over monies raised would be going to specified local charities named each year.

Past beneficiaries were to have been Lazarus House and NO/AIDS Task Force in New Orleans, Louisiana, and AID Atlanta in Atlanta, Georgia.

After GothCon 2002, several people raised concerns regarding bookkeeping for the event. When attempts to get answers from Sara Sieber, GothCon founder and director, proved fruitless, ACT UP Atlanta contacted the charities. All but one responded with regard to the validity of the donations.

Neither NO/AIDS Task Force nor AID Atlanta ever received the donations that Sieber claimed were made. The letters stating this fact are below. Click to view a full-size scan of each letter.

In light of this information, GCI and ACT UP Atlanta are boycotting GothCon.

We are not telling anyone to attend GothCon or NOT attend GothCon. We do suggest that you read the letters and decide for yourself whether or not you wish to support this event.

If you decide not to support GothCon 2003, we hope that you will consider supporting one of these charities or any other reputable AIDS organization or event:
